The Come Up, Newaplz - Wall [dir. @markolotysz], 2025

A. The come up…climbing while misunderstood

When dreams piled like deadlines, compassion felt like it couldn’t be further. You and your story were getting yourselves together through an array of calls made, questioned, ignored, and answered. Whether you fluctuated or broke in motion, you shared, learned, and got accustomed to the ropes given to you, as time opened to know your capacity.

Takuma Nakahira, (Plate No. C-004), 1971

B. Popularity, accessing common favor

Your ideas may or may not have resonated, so you tried other routes and got on trend trains for others to recognize you through a familiar tone. This didn’t mean you stayed here, but you tried here. You saw who came along and who chose otherwise. Many who congregated at tables that glittered fed off the pre-approval of others. Before they went all in on you, they tallied public signatures, preparing for their preferences for your entry.

Robert Rauschenberg, Environment, 1994

C. When the half original met the half new

After you became known (this varied, whether this came from raw recognition, your beginnings, or connection to someone), a select group fell into this category of splitting themselves into two, molding their ways to satisfy and attract multiple populations. A conventional way this was done was through appealing to audiences from opposing angles; the version of you, you held as real, and a reserved alternative edition, packaged for (another) specific gain. Both were you by association, yet differed through proximity, assimilation, and interpretation.

Luis Gispert, Louis Uluru, 2012

D. Let me in…to the party, welcoming in what was already accepted

After watching from a distance, people got used to your presence. Intrigue trickled into the mind’s gaze. This grew into them pronouncing aloud what they admired about the sides of yours they’d seen. They were involved, so they caught a liking. This rose thoughts of connection; your base of interest was increasing to a necessary want. The more chatter heard about you, the more people wished to join in on what you had going on.

Battle Ground High School Yearbook, 1959

E. Controversy, when all eyes met your words

Life changed, and so had your steps. You weren’t explaining to the world why you were the illest; why those who didn’t participate missed out if they didn’t pay you some mind. You were already noticed and known. When people had nothing to talk about, they got into discussing what others were doing. When things flipped dramatically, especially how your days felt, you had the choice to entertain what you once ignored. Man-made stir-ups helped with getting others to concentrate on you again, acquire new “fans”. This put you at risk for attaching yourself to noise, losing the trust your palms worked to possess. According to how you were remembered, your name got altered.

F. Reminiscing, yearning in plain sight

Where there was no longer relevancy, the past was the fastest record to cling to because it was not here. Who was going to verify every part of what you said?… When people (in your head) lost out on the golden moments and years you described, and you combined this with previously not being able to sustain how the light that once illuminated in you still was there, you reverted to talking about what no longer was; a diversion from reality, trying to trick people out of the now. When all else failed, you went back to singing the hits….

Fame’s to-be waves were regularly untangled.

There were some of the patterns we saw as people ascended and circled around this concept on their own, attempting to move away from their version of far too gone…

See you soon
